ying details:
Purchased (well, my company paid for it) for $7 at Henri's In Chicago on April 7th

Well, I wasn't expecting to record some beers for the blog during my recent business trip to Chicago, but came across a few - and thanks to the magic of a camera phone, I was able to take a picture as well.

The first of these was purchased at Henri's - a fairly upscale restaurant (gotta love corporate accounts) which also has quite to eclectic mix of beers available.  The description of this one (and the name) caught my eye and I decided to give it a go.

Three Floyds is a brewery that is known for being aggressive with their hopping - however the bartender pointed out that this particular beer what a wheat beer and because of this the hoppiness is not as strong and is much smoother than typical IPA's.

And he was right.

First, the beer has a nice light golden color and pours with a nearly white head.  The citrus (specifically grapefruit) on the nose is very present along with notes of wheat/hops/grain/etc.

The taste is very, very pleasant - basically you get all the best parts of an IPA without the bitter aftertaste that can sometimes accompany them.  It is very crisp and very light with some light citrus character and definitely the wheat is present.   It has a nice mouth feel and a pleasant aftertaste.

Overall, I really enjoyed this beer and am very glad that I tried it.  Wish it was readily available in my area - but I guess that is the good/bad associated with regional beers.  I give their beer $7 which is exactly what is costs ... which is nice.

PS - I found out the reason the beer is called Gumballhead is that some people feel the beer smells like gumballs.  I didn't really get that, but hey, they can have their fun
