Captain Lawrence Brewing Company:
Birra DeCicco
1 Pint 9.4 fluid oz bottle
????% alcohol by volume

Buying details:
$9.99  at DeCicco's on 13 February 2011

This beer is custom made by the Captain Lawrence Brewing Company of Pleasantville, NY for the DeCicco Grocery Store chain.  It is a specialized beer with a specialized taste.

Before we get to the taste, let's start with looks.  And this beer looks great!  A reddish golden color with a toffee colored head, it is certainly an inviting looking beer on a winter's night.  It has a nutty aroma that draws you in even more.

It is brewed with Belgium yeast strains and the first thing that will hit you when you taste it is sour citrisy notes that remind you of lambics and other Beligium style beers.   The label informs us that it is brewed with Italian chestnut honey and jam ... and while I am not sure if my palet is sophiticated enough to tell the difference between Itallian chestnut honey and jam and

For Midas Touch the recipe is, per the Dogfish Head website,  "the actual oldest-known fermented beverage in the world! It is an ancient Turkish recipe using the original ingredients from the 2700 year old drinking vessels discovered in the tomb of King Midas."

Midas Touch is the first Ancient Ale that I have tried, and while I appreciate the effort and am fascinated by the process, at least in this case, I am not sure if the effort was worth it.  It is

Welcome to the first post of The Beerlinguist Blog!

While checking out a new grocery store that opened in our area, we came across the most amazing beer isle I had ever seen .... so it felt like I had to share this with the world!

... plus, it's not like I have anything else going on ;o)

So my take will be as a guy who really, really likes beer, but isn't in the industry or anything, so I hope you find the reviews approachable and relatable

and now that I have that out of the way ... on to the first beer!

Obviously, this is quite the dark beer - so I'm immediately excited.  The bottle indicates that this is a "Coffee Vanilla Imperial Porter" and you definitely get the coffee flavors with the very first sip.  The coffee comes from cold brewed coffee provided by Caffe CaLabria.  I would say the vanilla is more stable,
